Jakkie Cilliers: ‘Africa First!’

On February 18, 2021, Foundation NICC was following an online presentation by the South African author Jakkie Cilliers of his book ‘Africa First! : Igniting a growth revolution’, followed by discussions.

Mr. Cilliers is Head of the African Futures & Innovation at the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and he is also Chairman of the Board of the ISS, that is based in Pretoria.

The presentation was organised by the NEDWORC Association, a Dutch organisation.

According to Mr. Cilliers poverty and underdevelopment will continue to prevail and the gap between Africa and the rest of the world will increase even further if Africa proceeds along the current path. He used continental data to model eleven interventions that can change Africa’s development path.

It was a thought provoking presentation and it would be interesting to compare this effort to influence the thinking about developments at the continental level with other documents that are dealing with the African continent as a whole.
