On the day that multiple fair trade organisations ask attention for the importance of fair trade for sustainable development, NICC publishes a timeline on the history of this fair trade movement and the involvement of Dutch organisations in this movement. The timeline is based on various items from the NICC collection, several online sources, and discussions with resource persons. The timeline is still a ‘work in progress’. We would like to further enhance the timeline, especially by adding first-hand experiences of experts in the field of fair trade. If you want to share your knowledge and/or pictures and videos, please send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have any questions or comments, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Fair Trade Week
Every second Saturday of May is World Fair Trade Day, the start of the International Fair Trade Week. NEWS!, the umbrella organization for European worldshops, established the European World Shop Day in 1996 as a Europe-wide day of campaigning for a particular issue. This initiative was taken up by IFAT, the International Federation for Alternative Trade, which is currently the World Fair Trade Organization. IFAT organised the first World Fair Trade Day on 4 May 2002.
